Memory Lounge Event in San Francisco

I was invited by Chic Unique Events and Jade Studio Productions to showcase my work on January 25, 2009. This exclusive event was a Sunday afternoon gala featuring many talented local professionals' works. I am gratefully honored to be part of it. For this event I created three new evening dresses, one wedding dress, as well as an existing evening dress from my previous collection. It was absolutely fun to present five distinct designs for the five themed rooms: Fantasy, Memory, Baby, Corporate, and Wedding. A runway show was also presented every half hour for guests to enjoy. Jira and her team from Wow Pretty artistically created the hair and makeup for the models.

Philippe from Jade Studio Productions graciously provided the event pictures of my dresses.

Your Must-Have Traveling Fashion Items

Whether you are traveling for business, pleasure, or for your honeymoon, packing just the right amount of items for your trip can be tricky business. You want to make sure that you pack a wide variety of fashion items so you'll be comfortable while sightseeing but won't miss out on special events or parties that might occur while you're on your trip. However, with so many airlines charging extra for the first or second bag, what kind of fashion items should you pack so you'll have the right mix of clothes to keep you looking sexy and stylish? The role of thumb is layering - the pieces to bring along should create multiple looks and serve multiple purposes. Here is your must-have checklist for your next trip:

1) Trench coat / Jacket - Every woman should own a classic neutral-color trench coat (short or mid-length) in their closet and should carry it with her on every trip. A trench coat is sexy, sophisticated, and versatile for any occasions. If weather unexpectedly changes during your trip, you're covered.

2) Boot-Cut Jeans - They are the universally flattering denim silhouette for every body shape. A dark rinse is the best color so you should undoubtedly bring a pair with you. With the popularity of 'casual elegance' you can wear jeans day or night.

3) Cardigan - Cardigan is a great layering piece and can instantly update your look from day to night. Pick a medium weight cardigan (cotton or cashmere) in a neutral color (black, cream, gray, camel, etc.) so it's appropriate for most weather.

4) Convertible Bra - A convertible bra is your best friend when you're traveling because you can wear it if you wear a strapless top or dress. The best color is beige or nude and it should match your skin color. Because it's two or more bras in one, you don't have to pack as many with you.

5) Tracksuits - I'm a HUGE fun of tracksuits (jacket / pants) because they're comfortable and practical. I love to wear them while I'm flying because the jacket will keep you warm while the pants will keep you comfortable on those long uncomfortable plane rides. My favorites are from Juicy Couture because they're stylish and comfortable. They're the best if you want to travel comfortably without compromising on style.

6) Tank Tops, Tees, and Blouses - These are the basic layers for traveling. Because they're thin and won't take up a lot of your precious luggage space, you can pack a few in different colors so you'll have different outfits everyday. Pair them with your jeans and change around between your track jacket, cardigan, and trench coat and no one will notice that you're recycling your clothes during your trip. Sneaky, huh?

7) Fun, Glamorous Jewelries - Jewelries are probably the easiest fashion items to have if you want to update your look from day to night. Since they're lightweight and can be tucked away in your carry-on luggage, you can bring multiple styles without worrying about space.

8) Day to Night Dress - Make sure you pack your favorite dress that can take you from day to night. It should be the one that is comfortable to wear during the day but can be dress up for a night time party or dinner. Although it's always safe to pick a black dress, it'll be more fun if you pick a colored dress since you already have neutral color layers (cardigan and trench coat) to go with it. Pair it with a necklace, earrings, and/or bracelets and you're ready to party!

9) Black Leather Dress Sandals - Depending on how comfortable you're with heels, you should bring the ones that can be worn during the day with jeans and night with your dress. I find that a pair of peep-toe, slingback style is the best because they're modern and chic and appropriate for any occasion.

10) All-in-One Makeup Palette - To streamline your makeup while you travel, you should find a neutral all-in-one palette. The kit should contain essentials like powder, blush, lip glosses, eyeshadows, bronzer, and/or concealers so you don't have to waste luggage space but still has enough of your essentials for your trip. Of course, you'll still have to bring other accessories like lash curler, mascara, and brushes but the kit would cover a majority of your makeup needs.

11) Mid-Size Tote and 'Clutchlet' - A mid-size tote would be very useful as a carry-on and also during the day when you're out shopping or sight-seeing. The tote shouldn't be too big because it'll be difficult to carry when you go out. It should also be made out of lightweight materials like fabric or soft leather. Use a 'clutchlet,' a clutch-style wallet that may come with a wristlet, so you can use it as a wallet during the day and can carry it as a clutch for night. You want your accessories to multi-task for you.

By all means these are not the ONLY must-have items when you travel because everyone has different needs. But this list will give you the basic ideas so you're well-prepared for your next travel. Simplicity is a bliss, especially when traveling is so hectic nowadays!

Fall for Cardigans

Most of us are probably quite familiar with cardigans. Cardigan is by far one of the most versatile layering pieces of clothing a woman should have in their closets. You can dress up or dress down and it is absolutely practical for transitioning from season to season. If you think buying a pair of new shoes or a new handbag to update your look for fall, perhaps you should check out the variety of cardigan styles available now. Now ,the only question is - how do you know which one(s) will work for you? Here is a breakdown of the different styles and how you can look foolproof.

Classic & Neo-Classic

The classic cardigan is great for everyday, especially for work. You can easily layer on top of a sleeveless top with trousers and no one will question about your professionalism. However, because the classic cardigan has been around for years, it's becoming a bit obsolete. Perhaps you can consider its cousin which I call it a neo-classic style. This style maintains the look of the classic cardigan, but instead of waist or hip length, it usually hits at mid-thigh. So, how can you wear this style? Like the classic cardigan, you can wear it with trousers, knee length skirts / dresses, as well with jeans and skinny pants. The only combination that will not work is pairing it with long calf to floor length skirts / dresses because you'll look matronly. If you're concerned about the volume, you can always add a belt.

Swing & Boyfriend

Two other great cardigan options are the swing and boyfriend styles. The swing cardigan is characterized by its trapeze shape and it may have one or more closures in the front. This style is trickier but if you wear it correctly, you'll look fresh and modern. Wear it with sheath dresses, straight leg pants / jeans, or shorts for a casual look. On the other hand the boyfriend style is more casual because of its loose, laid-back silhouette. Jeans with a fitted tee is your best bet.

Trendy & Vest

If you're tired of the traditional cardigans, the trendy and vest styles might just be right for you. The trendy style is technically a traditional cardigan but is adorned with intricate details like ruffles, bows, trims, sequins/beads, or prints. Because it calls for a lot of attention than the traditional cardigan, you should keep the rest of your look clean. Pair it with simple tops with pants, jeans, or skirts. Since its silhouette is universally flattering, you can choose practically any other silhouette to match it. The vest style is quite different. The look has a more 'prep school' appeal so you can achieve a sophisticated look. You can wear it with an A-line or pencil skirt or you can pair it with wide-leg trousers which will have the 'menswear-inspired' look that has been very popular lately. To tone down the masculine look of the vest, you can wear a ruffled shirt underneath.

Cropped & Short Sleeves

A cropped cardigan will look sensational with a dress or a tunic knit or woven shirt. Because the length is short (at waist or above), you need to wear a longer layer underneath or else you'll risk showing too much of your midriff. If you have a longer torso, the cropped style is perfect for you because it shortens your torso to balance your body. During the warmer days, the cropped and short sleeve cardigans are great layering pieces. The short sleeve example on the left would look perfect with jeans, pants, or short skirts. It looks very feminine and updated.

Shawl & Sweater Coat

The last group of cardigan styles are shawl and sweater coat. If you're looking for a cozy comfortable style for your casual weekend days, the shawl cardigan is a terrific choice. It's basically a sophisticated wrap. Remember how in the colder nights you would wrap yourself in a blanket in front of the fireplace? Well, you no longer need to do that because a shawl sweater like the one on the left will you keep you super warm. Best of all, you can wear it out without looking sloppy! Look for the ones with a cashmere blend instead of 100% wool to have the softer hand feel. The sweater coat is another option if you don't like the shawl collar. It's thicker than a traditional cardigan so it's more of an outerwear than a sweater.

So, if you're to choose one piece of clothing to update your look this fall, I'd highly recommend one of these cardigan styles. Because it's an outer layering piece, you can wear it everyday throughout the fall season and onto spring. Also, instead of wearing a wrap for your next wedding event, you can consider wearing a cute cardigan with your outfit.

Uber Feminine Trends for Fall

The fall season is here and summer is now over. Although most of us love the summer time where we can dress casually (tees, shorts, knit dresses), this fall season has many exciting feminine trends that I personally look forward to. There are probably some key pieces that you may already have in your closet, so you really don't need to spend a fortune to update your look. Of course, the easiest way to update your look is to get a new pair of shoes or a new handbag. However, there other clothing pieces that you can buy and keep them for the years to come. These items won't go out of style. They may look slightly different depending on the season, but you can feel good that they're worth the investments. Here are some items from this fall season that might be worth your time.

Lady-like bags

Look for feminine bags that are structured, either with handles or shoulder straps. They are generally small to medium in size, structured, and made out of calf leather, patent leather, or embossed leather. They work well with practically any outfits (jeans or dresses) and can take you from day to night. You don't have to stick to black; there are many other color options to choose from this season. You're bound to find one that you can treasure for years. If your budget allows, I recommend that you buy one with better quality because a well-made bag can upgrade your look instantly.

Laces

Don't underestimate the power of lace details. Laces are super feminine and add interests to your overall look. If you like classic and modern styles, lace details are perfect for you. However, unless you're a bride or going to a formal event, you should avoid wearing head to toe lace. However, you can find great pieces to add to your current wardrobe with small lace details like the examples shown. I particularly love having lace details on the cardigan. Try finding them in neutral colors so you can easily wear it with your other outfits.

Florals

Floral prints can perhaps be the symbol of femininity, and I believe every woman should have some type of floral print clothing in their closet. For this fall season the floral prints are bigger and more vibrant. But if you're a petite girl, you should avoid wearing big floral prints because they can overwhelm your figure. Instead, you should look for smaller prints and subtle color outfits. If you're not comfortable wearing floral prints, you should try floral print accessories like the Kate Spade pumps shown. You'll look absolutely sensational when you pair them with a solid color dress.

Cute Bridesmaid Gift Ideas

Your bridesmaids might be one of the most important people at your wedding. They may be helping you seal up all of the invitations, putting together wedding favors, throwing your bachelorette party, or just traveling across the country to be at your wedding. So, you might be thinking of giving them a bridesmaid gift as a way of saying thank you. Practically everyone is on a budget right now so you don't have to spend a fortune on bridesmaid gifts. I've come across some cute gift ideas that might interest you.
